On Friday Carley and I went to the Doug Fir to see Nellie McKay. I have a couple of her albums--she is an oddity who composes songs that could be part of Broadway musicals from the '50s but with a contemporary sensibility. We love shows at the Doug Fir because the room is so small--we were even able to get a table while we were waiting for the show to start. The crowd was NPR-diverse: turbo music dorks, oldsters, drunk sorority-types. The show was good--her banter reminded us of a politically-minded grama with a Judy Garland-affectation, which is funny because she is 23.
